Santa Maria RV publishes practical guides for RV travelers. This page explains how we research, write, check and update them.
Who Writes Our Content
Our articles are published by the SM Editorial Team. We don’t invent personal stories, trips or product tests. Our expertise shows in the sources we use, the details we check and the practical advice we give.
How We Research
Every guide starts with primary sources, in this order of preference:
- Government agencies and official bodies — for example the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, Recreation.gov, state park systems, state motor vehicle departments, NHTSA, FMCSA and Medicare.gov.
- Industry standards and associations — such as the RV Industry Association.
- Manufacturers — owner’s manuals, service guides and specification sheets.
- Official pages of the parks, clubs and companies we describe — for their own prices, rules and terms.
- Reputable media and research — only when a primary source isn’t available.
We don’t use forums, social media posts or other blogs as sources of facts.
How We Check Facts
- Every number, price, rule and specification is linked to its source in the text.
- Before publication, each article goes through a separate fact-checking pass: every claim is compared with the page it comes from, and anything we can’t confirm is removed or rewritten.
- Prices, campground rates, membership terms and laws change, so we date them (“as of November 2026”) and remind readers to check current rules.
- Safety topics — propane, electricity, towing weights, tires, roof work — follow the manufacturer’s instructions or the relevant standard, and we say when a certified RV technician or licensed professional is needed.
Health, Legal and Financial Topics
Articles about insurance, licenses, taxes, Medicare and similar subjects are general information, not advice for your situation. We link to official sources and recommend checking with the agency, your insurer, a licensed professional or a counselor before you decide.
How We Choose Products
In gear guides, we compare manufacturer specifications, compatibility with RV systems, certifications, verified owner reviews and independent test results. We don’t claim to have tested products ourselves unless an article says so. Affiliate relationships never affect which products we include; see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Updates and Corrections
We review and update articles when rules, prices or products change; the date of the last update is shown under the article title. If you find an error, please tell us through our Contact page. We check every report against the source and correct confirmed errors promptly.
Independence
We don’t accept payment for coverage, and advertisers or affiliate partners have no say in what we write.
